Simple and clear introduction to Queen Elizabeth's attitude towards Catholicism and Protestantism. William Shakespeare - His Life in Context
Absolutely delightful. Perspectives not found in other similar sites. Here is a section to whet your appetite:
Meanwhile, while William was determining his fortunes in London, his wife, Anne, lived on in Stratford with their three children. [At age of 21 ee left her after 3 years of marriage and the birth of 3 children.] He would return each year to spend time with his family, probably breaking his journey in Oxford at The Crown Inn. Shakespeare seems to have been on more than friendly terms with the family there. The innkeeper's wife, Jane Davenant, has even been considered as a contender for the identity of the Dark Lady of The Sonnets, though there are several more likely suggestions, and William, her son, was perhaps fathered by Shakespeare. In August 1596, however, Shakespeare's life was disturbed by family tragedy. His only son, Hamnet, at the age of eleven, died of the plague.

The Sixty-Minute Shakespeare Series
The ideal alternative for those lacking time and resources to tackle the unabridged versions of Shakespeare's plays. These smooth-flowing and
carefully edited texts works well for fully mounted productions, scene work and the general study of Shakespeare. While the language is condensed it is not modernized.
There are certainly well thought out arguments on both sides of the issue of reducing Shakespeare. It is the author's belief [and experience] when students [at any age] uncomfortable with the thought of Shakespeare are able to master small amounts, they are much more inclined to come back for more.
The Sixty-Minute Shakespeare Series

Shakespeare: To Teach or Not to Teach
Hard to imagine a teacher's manual that can be incorporated in the classroom all the way from second grade to college. Well, professors Cass Foster and Lynn G. Johnson have done it. They have actually taken the time to work with those age levels to develop methodologies well suited for educators with little or no experience teaching [or reading] Shakespeare.
You will appreciate their comprehensive and easy-to-follow instructions in generating discussions, developing exciting and easy-to-accomplish research projects, running rehearsals, engaging students in "games," creating across-the-curriculum activities [from science to math to physical education] and simple advice on how to avoid common mistakes when introducing the world's most widely read playwright. They even provide a broad historical perspective of the Elizabethan period in terms of politics, socio/economics and the development of theatre.
